Music from the classical canon collides with modern iterations and explorations in chamber music when members of Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble (5HE) return for their second performance at the vibrant grassroots Greencastle Summer Music Festival on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Greencastle founder, DePauw University School of Music professor and cellist Eric Edberg, joins 5HE on Shostakovich’s Five Pieces For 2 Violins and Piano and Bohuslav Martinů’s Trio for flute, cello, and piano. The concert also includes George Crumb’s Vox Balaenae and Soundings by 5HE’s Director of Artistic Programming Dan Visconti, featuring seven short movements that alternate between ensemble pieces and cadenzas, incorporating auxiliary offbeat noisemakers including rubber balloons, tuning pegs, and ping-pong balls.
