  • DePauw University Performing Arts – Actors from the London Stage
    7:30 PM-9:00 PM
    2019.10.23

ACTORS FROM THE LONDON STAGE — WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2019 • 7:30 P.M. at MOORE THEATRE

Each year the Actors From The London Stage (AFTLS) cast a touring company from among Britain’s finest actors to bring to American colleges and universities a lively text-centered production of two of Shakespeare’s most well- known plays.

This fall the AFTLS will be touring Twelfth Night, Shakespeare’s comedy of mistaken identity whose protagonist Viola must disguise herself as a man to woo the moody noblewoman Olivia for the melancholy Duke Orsino, but finds herself in a love triangle complicated by gender confusion. Using only five actors who each play multiple roles, the AFTLS company is famous for its robust physical and vocal performances of Shakespeare’s works.

DePauw University Orchestra : Ode to Beethoven

Sunday, October 27 2019 at 4:00-5:00 PM EDT at Green Center for Performing Arts (GCPA), Kresge, Auditorium

As the classical music world approaches the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven next year in 2020, the DePauw University Orchestra is jumping in early with its “Ode to Beethoven” featuring one of the composer’s most famous rhythmic and energetic works, Symphony No. 7 in A Major!
According to music director Orcenith Smith, “Beethoven’s purposeful attempts at pushing the envelope to create unique symphonic music were profound by this point in his career. Every work, which was finely wrought in depth of thought, gave us new revelations.”

  • DePauw Music – Faculty Recital: Tarn Travers & Jaram Kim, violins
    7:30 PM-8:30 PM
    2019.10.28

Faculty Recital: Tarn Travers and Jaram Kim, violins
    Date and Time
Monday, October 28 2019 at 7:30-8:30 PM EDT at Green Center for Performing Arts (GCPA), Thompson, Auditorium

DePauw faculty Tarn Travers is joined by violinist Jaram Kim, a former laureate of the Menuhin Competition, in a program of works for two violins by Eugène Ysaÿe, Sergei Prokofiev, and New York-based Italian composer Paolo Marchettini. The most famous of these works, Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins, is perhaps the most beloved of all repertoire for this combination of instruments.

Also on the program is Ysaÿe’s Sonata for Two Violins, which is rarely programmed due to its considerable difficulty and at times is written in such a way that it sounds as if there is an entire orchestra of violins instead of a mere two. The concert will round out with Marchettini’s Wandering in New York, a set of miniatures inspired by and evoking specific areas in New York City.
